Wildwood Sailing Club! "In 1967, the Wildwood Sailing Club was no more than a tangle of hawthorn trees, and empty bay, and a vision. " Read on to learn more about how the vision became the reality that many sailors have enjoyed for the last 50 years and for many more to come! Our History
A narrow lane winds through a pretty woodlot and opens onto a lovely expanse of trimmed lawn. The lawn slopes gently to the water's edge, and in the bay the sailboats bob neatly in their berths, all part of a large and well engineered docking system. It wasn't always this way. In 1967, the Wildwood Sailing Club was no more than a tangle of hawthorn trees, and empty bay, and a vision. The vision belonged to a small group of avid sailors, headed by Jack Payton of St. Marys, to whom the newly created Wildwood Lake offered a unique and wonderful opportunity to go sailing almost in their own backyard. |
