Rum Runner Race 2010
The Rum Runner 2010 may go down as the wettest race we have held
recently! With most of the participants braving at least one
torrential squall (complete with hail), we decided to score the race at
both the halfway point (the time you crossed the SL/FL heading towards
the Dam at the halfway point.) and the planned finish. As we were
unable to “Call” the race and get the information out to everyone (or
anyone!), and a few stalwarts actually braved the second storm (serious
hail!) we have listed the times and winners for the “Split” race as
well as the full race. Thanks go to Blair for winning both the half and
full race and making the political decision to call him the overall
race winner much easier. Lesson learned? In future we
will have a clear plan for a short course if weather dictates and the
communications to get the word out.
Also, a round of applause (and kudos) should be given to Steve
and Anita who, doing quite
well in the race, took down their sails during the first squall
(dropping out of the race) but went back to check on the others'
safety. They definitely win
the Sportsmanship Award this year!
