Finally! The big day arrived and the weather was truly spectacular; plenty of wind to keep the decorative flags fluttering and to propel the sailors around the lake in search of clues for the fun rally. As the sails filled with wind and the rally unfolded, guests began arriving at the club. They included family and friends, former WSC members in addition to the current commodore and other members of the Fanshawe Sailing Club.
There was a common thread to all of the Commodores' talks. They described very fond memories of the friendships they had formed at the club and the fun they had together enjoying club suppers, races, and moonlight sails. They also spoke proudly of the way club members came together to build the club; whether clearing the road into the grounds, building the structures that we now enjoy or putting in new docks together. It's a message that's still important today; it takes the whole crew to sail a ship!

One more sleep until Wildwood Sailing club members, past and present, and friends and family get together to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the sailing club. All hands are on deck to swab the decks (and lawn chairs), run up the flags and get the club looking ship shape for the big day. It looks like Mother Nature is going to throw in some wonderful weather too!
What a beautiful evening for the club's first barbecue of the season! It was warm and bright, with enough wind to keep the bugs at bay! As usual Margrit and her social committee members hosted a very tasty club feast. James rocked the barbecue and the burgers were exceptional! In addition, club members contributed a choice of delicious summery salads and deserts. If you ever get the opportunity, don't miss Corinne's homemade apple crisp! Thanks to everyone for your contributions! Following the meal, Margrit and Bernadette got things rolling with draws for nautical treasures which were on display. It's was an entertaining way to end the day and a lot of loot made its way to new homes! Thanks also to guest Judy Reddick for providing some of the photos posted here and on the racing page.
Club barbecues are a fun way to get acquainted with some of the people you see on the docks or on the water. WSC is a small, friendly club with sailors of all levels of expertise; from absolute beginner to old salt levels and a variety of boats; from kayaks and canoes to sailboards to catamarins to sailboats. So circle your calendar and make a date to come on out to one of the club events this summer and meet some people who share your passion for sailing! |
